Today
I took a short road trip through the Mississippi Delta. I ate lunch in Leland, learned something in
Indianola, and shopped in Greenwood.
Thought I would share a few things I learned on the trip.
First
of all, the Mississippi Delta is flat.
Seriously, very flat. And
lonesome. Mile after mile of fields,
some green with young plants and others waiting to be plowed. The Delta is a different place. It is easy to see how the blues took root and
grew here to become such well-known musical force.
Secondly,
a wrong turn can introduce you to something new if you just keep going. Because of a wrong turn, I have now visited
the town of Hollandale. I also learned
that there is a Mississippi Country Music Trail and Ben Peters (from
Hollandale) wrote fourteen number-one country songs.
And
finally, a good friend makes a road trip much more enjoyable. I enjoy road trips and will often head out on
my own, but I had a friend ride along for this trip. Being able to share some laughs (and potato
chips) with someone else just made a good trip even better!
